In 1976, I entered pre-med at The Ohio State University, fully intending to become a psychiatrist.
Why?

• I love helping people.
• I was fascinated by the mind.
• And candidly, I thought psychiatry had the best earning potential for someone deeply curious and empathetic.
   

But something shifted…

The more I learned about the allopathic system, the more I realized it didn’t align with my deeper beliefs.
I wasn’t drawn to treating symptoms—I was drawn to solving root causes.
And around that same time, I began transitioning to a vegetarian, then vegan lifestyle, and my awareness of the body–mind–spirit connection expanded rapidly.

So I pivoted.

I left pre-med and dove into business, finance, real estate law and systems thinking—eventually co-founding a medical and commercial financing company with my late brother in 1990.

That was the seed of what would become NextLevel.

Along the way, I ran a sign manufacturing company, acquired an auto leasing franchise, and learned the power of scalable systems while managing a Wendy’s drive-thru, where we aimed to hand you your food in 30 seconds or less—before you even reached the window.
