In 1976, I entered Pre-Med Studies, at The Ohio State University. My endeavor was to specialize in the field of Psychiatry.
I was drawn to Psychiatry for three (3) reasons:
It appears I wasn't as dynamic, in my thinking, back then. I guess it was the hormones.
Nevertheless, after learning more about the allopathic way of medicine and reading the book "The Making of a Psychiatrist"; and learning that Psychiatrists have the highest suicide rate of any profession; I began to feel that I would be committing a disservice to myself and my patients; according to the philosophy of Allopathy. This was during the time I began transitioning my diet from carnivore, to vegetarian, and on to vegan.
So, I fell out of alignment with that pursuit, in my Junior year, by becoming disenchanted with the allopathic way of medicine; which focuses on treating symptoms as opposed to the root cause.
You might say, that I could have stuck with my fascination with the mind and changed my studies to Psychology.
Well, due to my change in diet, I became more entuned with the health of one's body, starting with mine. I wasn't aware of Naturopathy or Homeopathy, at that time, nor was I aware of the functions of an Osteopathic Physician; for which those would have been more conducive to and in alignment with my way of thinking about treating the body.
Well, as it turned out, I decided to move back to Cleveland and took courses in business, marketing, finance, and law, at Cleveland State University. I felt it would help me with what I had been envisioning, for myself, moving forward.
But, just prior to that, I worked as an assistant manager, at Wendy's. It was there, that I first learned about the power of systems and how much of an efficient and effective impact they can have and make on a business.
At that time, our goal, at Wendy's, was to have the customer's food ready, to hand to them, before they pulled up to the Drive-thru window, to pay and receive their order, in 30 seconds, without really waiting.
Some years later, after purchasing an auto leasing franchise (this was before auto dealerships started providing leasing) and then starting a sign manufacturing company, with my father and youngest brother partnering with me; my late brother and I decided to get into the business of financing, in 1990, with a focus on providing medical practitioners with financing to start their private practice, along with commercial mortgages.
Over the years, we've added and provided an array of financial services to support and bring to fruition, the needs, goals, and desires of Medical Practitioners, Small Business Owners, and CRE Investors.
